The Portage Lakes are more than a cluster of lakes carved out by nature and man. They are more than their awe-inspiring views. They are more than a pleasuring ground for those who explore the waters, hike the trails, fish from its open or frozen-in-winter surface. They're a sanctuary, a home, a place to be protected
MISSION STATEMENT:
Facilitate communication between the local community and government organizations. The PLAC will deal with issues that
affect the Portage Lakes area and shall provide an avenue for hearing the community's feelings/ideas.
Educate the people living around the Portage Lakes and pass on information learned from various government agencies to
the community. The PLAC will be a resource available to those who wish to learn more about the lakes, and will conduct programs
to increase public awareness.
Promote both active and passive recreational use of the Portage Lakes that will enhance the quality of life and environment
found throughout our communities. The PLAC endorses water quality improvement, wildlife and habitat preservation, conservation,
pollution prevention, and noise reduction, law enforcement and safety patrols.
Evaluate the impact/success of projects and improvements strategies, consider possible follow-up activities, and make
recommendations that help ensure the value added for the community or facility. The PLAC will examine past developments and
review future needs in its efforts to understand the impacts of various activities when providing counsel to others.
By fulfilling its mission, the Portage Lakes Advisory Council will make a significant positive contribution to the Portage
Lakes community and government agencies.
